Interdependence is a concept that touches most aspects of life. As students grow and develop, they learn that their choices have consequences; they come across situations where one's human rights could come into conflict with another; and, perhaps most urgently, the future of all life on this planet is under threat from human impact.
Big Question
How do we speak for the critters?
Task
Students will explore the concept of interdependence by learning the science and stories of Alberta's wetlands ecosystems. They will collectively create and test an "Alberta Wetlands" deck to add to the global, open-source, Phylomon game . They will engage with a conservation biologist and other experts, as well as get hands-on experience studying a real wetland environment. Finally, the class will decide how they want to speak for the critters they have studied, and create an advocacy web-page to share their learning with their peers across the city and/or province.
